Saw this recent video with Marcelo Garcia that just altered my BJJ game slightly.
I found it fascinating how Garcia explained a few key concepts that even experienced BJJ players often miss, or for that matter concepts I miss when I am rolling and training BJJ. The first concept being 'Always attack', or in other words best defense is an offense, this is key in that your opponent will always be mindful of getting attacked. The second concept being allowing your opponent to work his game, so you can practice both defending and reacting with your opponent as well as being open-minded to see what each person works in their grappling game. This second concept reminds of a saying (paraphrased) by Eddie Bravo in which he said if you are not tapping you are not making progress.
Looks like Spain won this years World Cup and I didn't bother going to watch it seeing as I have nothing invested in either of those teams and it was shown at 230 am here in Taipei-let's go USA in 4 years. And in MMA news Shinya Aoki won by heal hook this past weekend-congrats to him but the only way this guy will ever be a top contender is when he hits the boxing gym and starts learning how to stand and throw his hands as well as defend himself from other throwing their hands at him (this is based on evidence from his loss to Milendez).
Well it's going to be boring for the next few weeks MMA news-wise, so I'm only gonna post stuff about myself

Well it was certainly an eventful weekend, the soccer team I wanted to see succeed lost pitifully, the fighter I desired to see victorious turned out to be certainly victoriously and I tried paintball for the first time.
Man am I pissed at Argentina. It seemed by most accounts that Argentina in this world cup was a force to be reckoned with, and of course they showed some rather dope ball handling skills stealing the German player's balls like sticking a razor through a wet paper bag as well as showing of great hackey sack skills doing tricks with the ball. If only they could've gotten their shit together and focused on winning the game with team work and organization, something the German had a solid grasp of and thus completely destroyed Argentina 4-0. Live and learn I guess, and my guess is Germany will take the cup.
Brock Lesnar took on the fearsome Shane Carwin and managed to just prevail. Starting with the first round, Carwin got Lesnar on his back and started pounded from Lesnars half-guard, and Lesnar took the shots like a man in what appeared to be a strategy to wear out Carwin. To me, as an off and on again MMA fighter, this strategy is actually fairly effective, by physics, in half guard or full guard it is quite difficult though not impossible to drive your hip and body into your punches. So what ends up happening is you both end up throwing punches with little power and you exert a lot of needless energy. The strategy didn't work exactly like a charm and the ref could've stopped the fight, but at least it took away some of the vicious power Carwin possesses. So in the end, in the 2nd round Lesnar sunk in the arm triangle subbing Carwin and retaining the championship belt with humble words afterwards thanking his teammates, family and friends-what class!
Paintball was all right. Getting hit with paintballs sucked, but it was cool to get a somewhat realistic version of war-anyways, that's all for now.

First post
Ok so I'm starting a blog related mostly to MMA, BJJ and whatever else comes to mind such as partying, picking up chicks, best beers to drink, staying in dope shape and learning Chinese.
Firstly, our guys at Taiwan Muay Thai put on great performances at an amateur Thai boxing event held in Taipei. Altogether there were 5 fighters representing our gym and our got awarded 5 medals, obviously, these are very positive results. Personally, I was only able to see the 1st day and most of the fights at the events were god awful (IMO) being that they were strictly amateur Thai boxing fights.
That withstanding, however, Demetri Telfair, probably one of the most determined motivated fighters i've ever come across put on a great fight just putting his opponents through hell with punches, elbows, kicks and knees, and he went on to win 2 fights though losing controversially in the championship. Our other guy, Sam, also showcased beautiful kickboxing skills. Throughout the fight he was landing overhands and kicks left and right, then finally in the 2nd round he nailed his opponent with a head kicked sending his poor opponent right onto the canvas. Sam's opponent managed to compose himself and get back to fighting, however, Sam just kept delivering a brutal assault of punches and kicks forcing his opponents corner to throw in the towel.

All in all, it was a great day.
Secondly, we had another member of Taiwanbjj and Muaythai fight-Justin Lee. Fighting in Hong Kong on the Legends MMA promotion, Justin took on a big local favorite Kenny Yuen. As the fight started Kenny seemed to be a bit tense while Justin was loose moving around the ring but then not even 45 seconds into the fight Justin nails Kenny with a beautifully laid straight. Kenny hits the canvas and at this point Justin went in for the kill and succeeded. I am so proud of this guy Justin, I've been training with him for quite some time and he is very humble as well as holding a definite hard work ethic and these qualities I'm certain gave him the win.
Thirdly, Fedor lost. What can I say after watching the fight, never ever fall recklessly into a BJJ masters guard especially with your hands flying-it's like giving him a big juicy steak. Next week it's Carwin/Lesnar. Hard fight to call, I gotta say I hope Lesnar wins, he trains out of my hometown Gym in Minnesota. I am not by any means a complete expert in fight strategy but I've had my share of scraps in thai boxing, boxing, bjj and MMA, anyways, I think Lesnar better use his wrestling and take Carwin off his feet and negate his KO power boxing abilities.
Fourthly, England should've gotten that goal against Germany. I went to a pool party and acted like an idiot of course being picked and turned upside down and having gin poured in my mouth.
This is it for now.
