Exciting weekend of fights. I eagerly awaited the fight between Benson Henderson and Clay Guida and the fight was as expected quite amazing. Before the fight I was calling Henderson as the winner as he seems to have a slight edge over Guida boxing and overall stand-up wise though both warriors mutually have analogous wrestling and ground skills. The fight was extremely active right from the start as both seemed to be eager to end the fight both quickly and swiftly. Guida would strive for one takedown after another while Henderson would defend it just barely fending off Guida's relentless wrestling attacks then Henderson countered with another takedown attempt of his own and managed to accomplish his task a bit more frequently than Guida. These wrestling actions coupled with a strong advantage boxing wise landing more clean shots than Guida propelled Henderson to a fair unanimous decision.
Other big fight of the last UFC was Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. This fight I found a bit more difficult to call but I was going to side with Velasquez on this match as victor since his movements as a heavyweight mimic a young lighter weighted fighter and his last performance beating up Brock Lesnar definitely put him as my favorite in this fight. However, it seemed Dos Santos put him in early checkmate stopping him quickly with an overhand right. Not really much else to say other than that shit happens.
The biggest fight though of the weekend, however, had to be the Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez quarrel. I am a huge fan of Pacquiao and I had high hopes he would come out victorious and he did, but in unconvincing fashion. I, with my bias for Pacquiao, gave the first 4 rounds but those rounds were very close and could be judged for either fighter. Rounds 5-10 on the other hand, Marquez easily took those rounds as he countered punched Pacquiao cleanly and landed by far much more solid shots on Pacquiao all the while Pacquiao struggled to move inside complete his attacks on Marquez. Rounds 11 and 12 were a bit harder to call but possibly Pacquiao took them, and somehow in the end Pacquiao walked away as victor which is rather mind boggling and says something about how boxing matches can be judged as Marquez convincingly won rounds while the rounds Pacquiao took were enormously difficult to call. Marquez sums up my thoughts best with his comments on the conclusion of the fight and whether another fight between him and Pacquiao is possible in the future, "It is so hard when you're fighting against a rival and also against the three judges." Cliched as it sounds never leave fights in the judges hands.

Anyways, that's it for now.

Anyways, to blogging MMA. Some big fights this weekend with the UFC as Cain Velasquez and Junior De la Santos go at it, I'm taking Velasquez on it as he is an all around astonishingly good athlete; however, I love Ben Henderson as he is good at all levels of the game including probably having the most beautiful jab in MMA and he is facing off against Clay Guida, so I'm definitely looking forward to this one. But of all that need to be seen, the Pacquiao and Marquez fight will be enormous and as a huge Pacquaio fan, I hope Pacquaio puts Marquez through hell and comes out victorious...we'll see for now.

Well done with a grad course and ready to really blog this time. UFC 138's main event between Mark Munoz and Chris Leben was a nice technical scrap, and what I clearly noticed was that Mark Munoz has some powerful hammering punches and ended up winning the scrap by way of TKO due to a bloody gash on Leben's face. Upon the finish of the bout, Munoz called out the middleweight champion Anderson Silva, and this is where I think Munoz may be getting a bit too cocky. Munoz clearly dominated Leben however he did not put the same near flawless beat down that Silva gave Leben, hence, I am of the opinion that Munoz needs some testing before Silva perhaps against a guy like Brian Stann or even Damian Meia can give that test, and if he can satisfactorily pass then he should by all means face Silva.
Anyways, another weekend of partying and keeping busy. I had a good BJJ rolling session Saturday night and learned not to over commit one leg while trying to maintain or achieve solid control from a spider guard since my opponent attacked my leg and I had no resources to defend the leg attack and my opponent received my quick submission. For the partying aspect, I put together a strange alcoholic concoction of a Smirnoff vodka girl drink and beer and it resulted in just a beer flavored Smirnoff which was slightly edible. After indulging in this concoction made and drank on the premises of a 7-11, me and the group of friends and mild acquaintances frolicked on over to a small bar with 50 nt (2 USD) shots, and quickly realized you really do get what you pay for in that the vodka, brandy and whiskey shots all tasted like complete horrid shit yet still managed to accomplish the worthwhile task of maintaining my drunkenness. We then headed into Luxy and me and my crew mingled around for a while working hard to lazily dance to crap music while checking out eye candy. Soon enough we then headed out to a rather new higher class club called 'Myst' which turned out to be not too bad as you could dance a bit less lazily as the music was better and drinks were definitely stronger, and luckily I finally made it home intact-solid way to celebrate a completed grad course. More to write later, that's it for now!
